Goldfields Sustainability Group.
We are residents of the Central Goldfields Shire passionate about living sustainably right now and building a sustainable future for ourselves, our communities and the world at large.
We organise regular events for our members and guests to learn about sustainable practices, get hands-on experience and to share our knowledge, skills and resources.
These events may be about learning the simple techniques that have increasingly been lost in a fast-paced, consumption oriented world, such as preserving produce, weaving and looking after a vege garden. Or they may be about using modern technology to make more efficient use of resources, such as building wicking gardens, running an aquaponics system, or knowing the ins and outs of generating your own electricity with solar panels.
Dunolly Community Garden
The Dunolly Community Garden is located at the Dunolly Preschool in Maude St, Dunolly. We meet on Wednesdays at 2.00pm throughout the year, and 5.00pm in Summer.
The Community Garden was established in 2012.We have over 25 fruit trees and 15 wicking beds. Most of these are on the Preschools grounds and we share the caring and harvesting with the preschool children and teaching staff.
We have several raised vegie garden wicking beds (as featured in the Earth Garden magazine, Spring 2012) maintained and harvested in partnership with the garden members and the pre-school children. Cooking activities are regularly included in the pre-school program using this produce. All food scraps are saved and shared between our chooks and worm farm.
