The Dunolly Theatre Company was incorporated in 2014 to encourage classical music and theatre in the town under the mentorship of more experience actors and singers. Our first event was a sing-along performance of Handel’s famous oratorio The Messiah at the Dunolly Town Hall in November 2014 with the Heidelberg Choral Society from Melbourne.
The acoustics in the Town Hall were ideal for the 16 piece orchestra, four soloists and sixty strong choir. Many in the capacity audience borrowed scores that were available at the door and sang along in hearty voice that raised the roof with the Hallelujah chorus.
Dunolly’s own “Queen Victoria” is omnipresent at these musical events and always has a word to say, and even enjoys to sing along.
Rachel Buckley, the artistic director of Dunolly Theatre Company, gratefully acknowledges the support of the Bendigo Regional Tourism and the Shire of the Central Goldfields for the funds for the inaugural event.
In November 2016, the Melbourne based Bach Chamber Choir performed at the St John’s Church with works by Britten, Rachmaninoff and Barber.
Our 2017 event will be a repeat performance of The Messiah with orchestra and choir of the Heidelberg Choral Society. The sing along event will be performed at the Dunolly Town Hall on 19th November 2017 at 2pm.
